Unable to connect to e-habillement: quick solutions before contacting support

When opening e-Habillement from the office workstation, the page loops endlessly, and nothing displays. No error message, no explanation, just a silent return to the MinDefConnect login screen. When you are a reservist or an active military member with an inspection to prepare, each day without access to your supplies complicates the situation. Before calling the Army Commissariat support, several quick checks can resolve most cases.

Workstation Clock and e-Habillement Security Certificates

This blockage often goes unnoticed because it generates no explicit message. A time difference of just a few minutes on the workstation clock is enough to invalidate the certificates used by the platform. The browser then refuses the connection or redirects to MinDefConnect in a loop, without any explanation.

Checking the system time is the first reflex to have. On Windows, go to “Adjust date/time” and enable automatic synchronization with a time server. On Mac, it’s in “Set date and time automatically.” Once the clock is reset, restart the browser (not just the tab) and try to connect again.

When you find yourself in a situation where it is impossible to connect to e-Habillement, this manipulation resolves the issue in a surprisingly high number of cases, especially on workstations that haven’t restarted in several days.

Temporary Lockout After Multiple Attempts on MinDefConnect

Since the deployment of e-Habillement in the Army, at the DGA, and across inter-army services, increased loads have prompted MinDefConnect to strengthen its access controls. The direct consequence: multiple failed attempts in close succession temporarily lock the account, without the user being clearly informed.

The symptom is always the same. You enter your credentials, the page seems to load, then you return to the login screen. No red banner, no visible attempt counter. You try again, worsening the lockout.

How Long to Wait Before Trying Again

Feedback varies on this point, but most users report that a break of about fifteen minutes is enough to unlock access. During this time, do not attempt anything. Close the browser, clear the cache if possible, and wait.

If after this break the connection still fails, the problem is likely not related to the lockout. We move on to network checks.

VPN, Proxy, and Ad Blockers: e-Habillement Connection on a Blank Page

Internal habilitation platforms (Ministry of the Armed Forces, La Poste, etc.) are sensitive to elements that filter or modify network traffic. An active VPN, a filtering corporate proxy, or even a simple ad blocker in the browser can cause a blank page or silent refusal.

Here are the elements to temporarily disable for testing:

  • The VPN, whether personal or linked to a unit network, for a direct connection attempt
  • Browser extensions like uBlock Origin, AdBlock Plus, or Privacy Badger, which may block scripts necessary for MinDefConnect
  • The proxy configured in the workstation’s network settings, if on a personal network or working remotely

Testing with a bare browser (without extensions) quickly isolates the cause. You can use a private browsing mode, which disables most extensions by default. If the connection works in private browsing, the culprit is an extension.

Cache, Cookies, and Redirection Loop on e-Habillement

When the browser retains expired session cookies or a corrupted cache, the platform may reject the authentication attempt without displaying an error. You end up stuck in a redirection loop between e-Habillement and MinDefConnect.

Targeted Cleaning Rather Than Total Deletion

Instead of clearing all the browser’s cache (which disconnects from all sites), you can target the cleaning:

  • In Chrome: Settings, Privacy, Clear browsing data, check only “Cookies” and “Cached images and files,” then filter on the domain habillement.defense.gouv.fr
  • In Firefox: Settings, Privacy, Manage data, search for “habillement” and delete the corresponding entries
  • In Edge: same logic via Settings, Privacy, Choose what to clear

A targeted cleaning of cookies from the domain defense.gouv.fr is sufficient in most cases. Then restart the browser before trying again.

Compatible Browser and Minimum Version for the Defense Platform

The e-Habillement platform uses MinDefConnect authentication, which relies on recent security standards. An outdated or unmaintained browser (Internet Explorer, older versions of Firefox ESR still present on some workstations) may simply be incompatible.

Prefer up-to-date versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. On a professional workstation where you do not control updates, testing from a personal device on Wi-Fi can confirm that the problem comes from the workstation and not from the platform itself.

If the connection works from another device, the problem is local. You then know what to report to support: workstation, browser, version, network used. This level of detail significantly speeds up the processing of the request by the Army Commissariat, accessible via the “Contact Us” page of the e-Habillement site.

When all these checks have been made without results, the blockage is likely on the server side (maintenance, increased load) or related to a rights issue on the account. At this stage, contacting support with the list of tests already performed remains the only option, but you arrive with a clear case rather than a simple “it doesn’t work.”
